Joule is unit of energy as well as work. (Work is just a way of expressing the energy expended in doing something. In other words, energy and work have the same units.)
On the other hand, Watt is the unit of 'power', which is energy per unit time (Joules per second). So the amount of energy is measured in Joules, while the rate of the flow of this energy is measured in Watts.
This is why household electrical appliances show how many Watts they consume - so that you can know how much energy it is going to consume PER SECOND. When you integrate the Watts over the time period for which the appliance has run, you get the total energy you have spent in running it.
