Let the required number be x.

$\frac{2}{3} x = x - 20$

$\frac{2}{3}x - x = - 20$

(By transposing)

LCM of 3 and 1 is 3

$\frac{2}{3} x - \frac{3}{3} x \: = - 20$

$- \frac{ x}{3} = - 20$

(The minus sign(-) from both sides will be cancelled)

$x = 3 \times 20$

(By transportation)

$x = 60$

Hence, the original number is 60.
