 let the total number of students = x
students coming by car = 2/5 of  x  = 2x/5
students coming by bus = 1/4
students coming by walking on their own  = 1/3
total students who come by walk = 224
according to the sum
            x = 2x/5 + 1/4 + 224
            x = 8x +5 /20  + 224
            x =  8x+5+4480/20
           x-8x = 5+4480 /20
             -7x =  20+4480/20
             -7x = 4468 /20 ( cross multiplication next step )
           -7x * 20 = 4468
             -140x = 4468
                    x = 4468/-140
                    x = 31.914
the answer is 31.914

Answer:

1920

Step-by-step explanation:

Let the total number of students be x

\frac{2x}{5} ⇒ Car

\frac{x}{4} ⇒ Bus

= x - (\frac{2x}{5} + \frac{x}{4})

= x - (\frac{8x+5x}{20})

= x - (\frac{13x}{20})

= \frac{7x}{20} ⇒ Walking

(x = \frac{20}{20} So, \frac{20}{20} - \frac{13x}{20} )

\frac{1}{3} ⇒ Walk on their own

\frac{7x}{20} × \frac{1}{3} = 224

\frac{7x}{20} =\frac{244}{1}

(Cross Multimlication)

7x = 224 × 60

x = \frac{224 * 60}{7}

  = 1920

So, there are 1920 students in that school.
