2. A block of wood is kept on a table top. The mass of wooden block is 5 kg and its
dimensions are 40 cm x 20 cm x 10 cm. Find the pressure exerted by the wooden block
on the table top if it is made to lie on the table top with its sides of dimensions
(a) 20 cm x 10 cm and (b) 40 cm x 20 cm.

pressure  =  \frac{force}{area} =  \frac{mass \times gravity}{area}

Mass - in kilogram

gravity - 10 m/s^2

area - m^2

20 cm × 10 cm = 0.2 m × 0.1 m = 0.02 m^2

 pressure=  \frac{5 \times 10}{0.02} = 2500 \: pascal

40 cm × 20 cm = 0.4 m × 0.2 m = 0.08 m^2

pressure =  \frac{5 \times 10}{0.08} = 625 \: pascal
