First of all, we will calculate the total distance and total time to find the average speed

Average speed= (Total Distance)/(Total time)

Distance1 = 20 m

Time1 = 5 s

Distance2 = 20 m

Time2 = 3 s

Total Distance(D) = 20m + 20m = 40m

Total Time(T) = 5 s + 3 s = 8 s

Average Speed = Total Distance(D) / Total Time(T) = D/T = 40/8

= 5 m/s
