Given

A force of 5 N applied on m₁ produces an acceleration of 8 m/s² and when applied on  m₂  produces an acceleration of 24 m/s²

To Find

Acceleration when they are tied together

Formula Applied

Newtons Second Law

\bf \pink{\bigstar\ \; F=ma}

Solution

F₁ = 5 N

a₁ = 8 m/s²

F₂ = 5 N

a₂ = 24 m/s²

Apply formula for m₁ :

⇒ F₁ = m₁a₁

⇒ 5 = m₁(8)

m₁ = ⁵/₈ kg

Apply formula for m₂ :

⇒ F₂ = m₂a₂

⇒ 5 = m₂(24)

m₂ = ⁵/₂₄

Apply formula when they tied together , M = m₁ + m₂ ,

⇒ F = Ma

⇒ 5 = ( m₁ + m₂ ) a

⇒ 5 = ( ⁵/₈ + ⁵/₂₄ ) a

⇒ 5 = ( ⁽¹⁵ ⁺ ⁵⁾ / ₂₄ ) a

⇒ a = ¹²⁰/₂₀

a = 6 m/s²

So , Acceleration when they tied together is 6 m/s²
