Answer:

The shortest distance from his house to school is 4\sqrt{2}+2\sqrt{5}

and the direction is North-east.

Step-by-step explanation:

In this question,

We have been given that

Amit starts from his house walks 4m North,took right turn towards east direction and walks for 4 m,again took left turn towards north direction and walks 4m,From there his school is 2m to his right.

To find the Distance between the school and house

Taking 1st part of the question i.e Amit walks 4m in north direction and 4m in East direction.

Now we will calculate the shortest distance.As it is making the right angle traingle,therefore we will use Pythogores Theorem,

(Hypotenuse)^{2}=(Perpendicular)^{2}+(Base)^{2}

So putting the values we get,(H)^{2}=(4)^{2}+(4)^{2}

                                                (H)^{2}=32

                                                 H=4\sqrt{2}

Taking 2nd part of the question i.e Amit walks 4m in North direction and from there his school was 2m

Again using Pythogores Theorem we get,

                                                                   (H)^{2}=(4)^{2}+(2)^{2}

                                                                   (H)^{2}=20

                                                                   H=2\sqrt{5}

Shortest distance of Amit's school is 4\sqrt{2}+2\sqrt{5} in the North-east direction.
