2. An old man was trying to place a ladder 13 m long in such a way that it reaches a window of a building 12 m above the ground. Anoop decided to help the old man. He placed the foot of the ladder at such a distance from the wall that the top of ladder reached the window. (a) Find the distance of the foot of ladder from the wall. (b) What value is depicted by Anoop ?​

In figure, AB depicts the ladder, BC depicts the wall and AC depicts the distance of foot of ladder from wall.

Let a = height of wall = 12m,

b = ?

c = Length of ladder = 13m

In right triangle ABC

c²=a²+b²

13²=12²+b²

169=144+b²

b²=169-144

b=√25

b=5m

∴ distance of foot of ladder from wall is equal to 5 meter
