Let the number be X ,
2/3 of the number = 2X/3,

According to data,

X - 2X/3 = 20, because it is less than the original by 20,

now simply the equation , you get,
(3X-2X)/3 = 20

Multiply 3 on both sides,

(3X-2X) = 60,

Now X = 60,

The required number !
