Answer:

2c + 3p = 18....1st eqn

5c + 1p = 19....2nd eqn

multiply 2nd eqn by the coefficient of "p" which is (3)from 1st eqn.....3(5c + 1p = 19)

so it would be : 15c + 3p = 57.......3rd eqn

now solve 1st eqn and 3rd eqn

15c + 3p = 57

2c + 3p = 18

(-) (-) (-)

___________

13c = 39

___________

so, c = 39/13 = 3

now put the value of "c" in 1st eqn :

2(3) +3p = 18

6 + 3p = 18

3p = 18 - 6

3p = 12

p = 12/3 = 4

hence cost of cup is £3 , cost of plate is £4.
