2. Cylinders of potato, each of the same length were placed into different concentrations
of sugar solution. After two hours the cylinders were removed and the length was
measured. The table shows the results.

(b)(i) In which concentrations of sugar solution did the potato cylinder increase in length?
(ii) Explain how this is caused.
(c) Which concentration of sugar solution had no effect on the length of the potato
cylinder?
(d)(i) Calculate the percentage decrease in the potato cylinder in 12% sugar solution.
(e)(ii) Explain how this decrease is caused.

Answer:

THIS IS THE ANSWER

Explanation:

(b)(i) 2% concerntration

(ii) As there is low water potensial in the potato cylinder and high water potensial in the sugar solution so a water potensial gradient is created and so water moves in the potato cells by procces called osmosis.

(c) 6% concerntration

(d) % decrease= decrease/ 60 into 100

=(60-57)/60 into 100

=3/60 into 100

=5%
