Explanation:

A direct development is a type of development in which a young is directly born as a small version of an adult and it develops into a mature individual without undergoing metamorphosis. Whereas, in indirect development, larva is hatched from the egg. Larva then metamorphosed to an adult.

Direct Development:

  • When an animal is born, it is a miniature replica of its adult form.
  • There is no intermediary stage of the animal, such as a larva, in this kind of development.
  • Directly developing animals may have a substantial amount of yolk in their egg to feed their young, or the young may be nourished directly by the mother's body.
  • Metamorphosis isn't possible in direct development.
  • Fishes, reptiles, birds, and mammals are the creatures that go through direct development.

Indirect Development:

  • When an animal is born, it is not the same as when it is an adult.
  • The embryo hatches from the egg in the shape of a larva in this stage of development.
  • To mature into an adult, the larva must go through a metamorphosis process.
  • Indirectly developed animals contain very little yolk, and the larva grows and hatches quickly as a result of the limited quantity of yolk.
  • Indirect development occurs in amphibians, some echinoderms, and some arthropods like insects.
