Step-by-step explanation:

Step 1: Draw a circle with centre U with radius 3.3 cm, Mark any point P on it.

Step 2: Draw chord PQ=6.6cm (PQ is the diameter of the circle).

Step 3: Draw rays UX and UY.

Step 4: Draw line l perpendicular to ray UX through point P.

Step 4: Draw line m perpendicular to ray UY through point Q.

Here, line l and m are the required tangents to the circle at points P and Q, respectively.

It can be observed that the tangents l and m are parallel to each other.

A circle with a radius of 3.5 cm and with a diameter of MN and tangent drawn at M and N is in the attachment below.

The tangents XMY & LNP are parallel to each other.

Concept used:

  • As we know that the sum of co - interior angles are supplementary than the two lines must be parallel.
  • Diameter = 2 × radius

Given :

Radius = 3.5 cm

To draw :

Draw tangent at M and N

STEPS OF CONSTRUCTION:

1. Draw a circle with Centre O and a radius of 3.5 cm.

2. Draw a diameter MON = 2 × 3.5 = 7 cm .

[Diameter = 2 × radius ]

3. Construct an angle of 90º at M.

4. Again Construct an angle of 90º at N.

Observations about the tangent:

Both the tangents are parallel to each other because the sum of co- interior angles is supplementary.i.e ∠M + ∠N = 180º

Thus, XMY & LNP are the two tangents at M and N to the circle with Centre O. XMY & LNP are parallel to each other.
