Chemical Weathering is the process by which rocks are broken down by chemical reactions. Various types of chemical weathering and there exposure to things as water, oxygen, carbon dioxide and acids can change minerals found in rocks.

Two examples of chemical weathering are :

i) Hydrolysis

Chemical decomposition of substance with water.

Examples of hydrolysis is feldspar found in granite changing to clay.

When rains water seeps down the ground and comes in contact with granite rocks.

Feldspar crystals inside granite dissolves in water and chemically altered forming clay minerals which weakens rock.

ii) Oxidation

Reaction of substance with oxygen.

Rocks get rusty if they has iron.

When iron reacts with oxygen forming iron oxide which isn't strong.

When rock gets oxidized it weakened and crumbles allowing rock to break down.
