Examples of mixed cropping are:

  1. Three sisters of America:  Maize, beans, and pumpkins .
  2. Sorghum, pearl millet, and cowpea.

Mixed cropping is a technique in agriculture where two or more crops are cultivated on a "same piece of land". The farmers follow the mixed cropping technique in order to retain and maintain the "productivity of the soil". Most of the places legumes are planted in "alternate rows" in order to maintain the nutrients of the soil.
