These mainly include the books written, newspapers of that time and so on. It depicts usual information which actually happened at that time.

1) Newspaper can be defined as a ‘printed means of conveying current information’. It is the proud institution of the society and its basic function is to provide information, education, entertainment. The british period was marked by severe government control and censorship. If some newspapers print any news against the government then the strict penalty was given. Therefore in the late of18th and 19th century no reputed journalist or newspaper emerged. Renowned newspapers and social reformers-

Raja Ram mohan Roy recognized the power of newspapers and started a Bengali newspaper ‘Sambad kaumudi’ in 1822.

C.Y chintamani, N.C kelkar also started newspapers.

Fardaonji Murzban in 1822 started ‘ Bombay Samachar’ . He was a pioneer of the vernacular press in Bombay.

Answer 2: During the modern period, due to the development of Technology there was a development in the art of photography, recording, films etc.

Photographs are visual source of modern Indian history. With the discovery of art of photography, photographs of various persons, events, objects, structure, places were clicked. Through these photographs, we get information of the person or an event in a visual format. In case of the medieval period there are paintings available that depict the physical features of a person or visual description of a particular event, but the authenticity of these paintings is doubtful.

The discovery of the technique of recording was also as important as photography. Recording is a form of audio source of history. During the modern period, the speeches of leaders or important personalities, songs etc are available in the form of recordings. They can be used as a source of history.

Films are considered as a unique discovery of modern technology. In the 20th century, there was a great development in the technique of filmmaking. Dada Saheb Phalke, in the year 1913, laid the foundation of Indian film industry. Audiovisual recording of Dandi Yatra, Salt Satyagraha, Quit India Movement and such other historical incidents are available. Through these films the events could be seen in reality.
