we can distinguish between ethanol and ethanoic acid by reacting them with a metallic carbonate like Na2CO3 or a bicarbonate like NaHCO3 .......
ethanoic acid reacts to give to give CO2 and no reaction takes place in case of ethanol.
2CH3COOH + Na2CO3 ----------> CH3COONa + H2O + CO2
CH3CH2OH +Na2CO3 -------------> NO REACTION...
ANY PROBLEM ASK ME
SAME CASE WITH NaHCO3
HOPE U GOT IT........:)

Answer:
thw test is as simple as the release of carbon dioxide
Explanation:
when we react ethanoic acid and ethanol with sodium carbonates or bicarbonates , the following happens
ETHANOIC ACID : carbon dioxide gas is released along with water
ETHANOL : carbon dioxide is not released
thus sodium carbonates and bicarbonates can be used to test or differentiate between the two
