Given,

Cost of making a leather ball = ₹ 431.20

Rate of making the leather ball = ₹ 17.5 /cm²

To find,

The diameter of the leather ball.

Solution,

Let,the radius of the leather ball = r cm

[Assume, r as a variable to do the further mathematical calculations.]

So,

The surface area of the leather ball = 4πr² cm²

Now, according to the question,

₹ 17.5 for = 1 cm² leather ball

₹ 1 for = 1/17.5 cm² leather ball

₹ 431.20 for = 431.20/17.5 cm² leather ball = 24.64 cm²

If we compare the two values of the surface area that we have calculated then we will get the following mathematical equation,

4πr² = 24.64

r² = 24.64 × ¼ × 7/22

r² = 172.48/88

r² = 1.96

r = 1.4

Radius = 1.4 cm

Diameter = 1.4×2 = 2.8 cm

Hence,the diameter of the leather ball is 2.8 centimetres.
