2 : Linear Equations in One Variable : Sonakshi had 1000 as currency notes in the denominations of 50 and 100 notes. There are thrice as many 50 notes as 100 notes. How many notes of each denomination does she have? In the question, the total amount of money with Sonakshi is known. But the respective number of currency notes in the denominations of 50 and 3100 is unknown. Let number of 100 rupee notes be x. So number of 50 rupee notes will be 3x. Amount made of 50 notes = 50 x 3x = 150x. Amount made of 100 notes = 100 x x = 100x. According to the question, total money with Sonakshi is 1000. Therefore, 150x + 100x = 1000 250x = 1000 1000 ... = 4 250

Answer:

Let x be the number of 100 rupee notes.

as per question, number of 50 rupee notes= 3x

Therefore, 50×3x + 100x = 1000

150x + 100x = 1000

250x= 1000

x= 1000/250 = 4

thus the number of 100 rupee notes =4

and the number of 50 rupee notes= 3×4=12
