2 methyl propene has formula C4H8.

It's common name is isobutylene

(CH3)2C=CH2 is the linear formula for 2 methyl propene.

Isobutyl bromide has formula C4H9Br.

The IUPAC name of isobutyl bromide is 1 bromo 2 methyl propane.

2-Methylpropene can be converted into isobutyl bromide by hydrogen bromide.

But the above reaction will occur under specific conditions.

The conditions are stated below.

It is basically anti Markonikoffs rule.

It involves addition of Hydrogen bromide that is HBr.

In this reaction either isobutyl bromide is formed or tertiary butyl bromide is formed.

But the production of tertiary butyl bromide is favoured.
