Microorganisms help to recycle minerals back to soil.
More Information -
Microorganisms : like the bacterias and fungi and other organisms that cannot be seen with naked eyes, they help in decomposition of mineral and other nutrients back to soil.
They are also called decomposers. They break down dead and decaying animals and plants and get mixed up in soil. So, they enrich the fertility of the soil. There is recycling of minerals.
If dead organisms are not decomposed by decomposers, the number of dead organisms will increase and there will be no space left for other living creatures.
- The substances that can be decomposed by the decomposers are called biodegradable substances. Like leaf, plants, animals etc.
But there are some substances that cannot be decomposed completely.
They are non - biodegradable substances. They take long time to get decomposed hence, pollution the soil. Like plastic, synthetic fibres etc.
Decomposing can be faster by the process Vermicomposting. It is a decomposition process in which the compost is made very fast with help of worms.
So,
- We should avoid use of plastics, polybags.
- We should avoid burning of non biodegradable substances like plastics, and other harmful materials to prevent pollution
