Joint
family preserves culture and customs. Traditions and skills in art and craft
are passed on from generation to generation. In times of celebration, in times
of despair, the members share their joys or sorrows equally. There is no
difference between real brothers and cousin brothers. The children grow up
together. They sleep in the midst of love and wake up in the midst of love. They
always had company.
On the
contrary, in the nuclear families, children are obsessed with their toys in
order to keep themselves occupied. Boys sit on the couch like a couch potato
all day long and play video games. Girls play with Barbie dolls who barely
resemble women. First of all three fourth of the doll consists of legs and
second of all it gives a wrong impression on the growing minds. They decide
that this is the way I want to look when I grow up. Whereas girls in the joint
family get to play with real babies instead of plastic dolls.
The
joint family system is a boon for the elders. They never feel lonely. They feel
wanted and cared for. They get repaid for all their hard work during their
youth.
The
nuclear family is a curse for the elders. They are neglected, un wanted and
most of the time removed from the family. Not a single son or daughter is
willing to accept responsibility of old parents. For those of you who support
the nuclear family system, I say that you are utterly selfish, because one day
you too will become old. Then, you will realize the value of the joint family
system.
When
both parents are working, it is nice to have someone at home. Robberies are
avoided and someone is waiting for the home coming child. With present trend of
nuclear families, the divorce rates have increased tremendously. Parents must
learn from their own mistakes by trial and error. If elders are there they can
learn from their experience.
To
conclude unity is strength. Therefore, Joint family is better then nuclear family!
