The squirrel was very devoted to Lord Rama. So when the bridge was being built the squirrel also rolled on the sand and dropped the sand in the water in order to help in building the bridge. Lord Rama was pleased with her devotion and lovingly patted her on the back. He stroked her back with three fingers. It is said that this is the reason why there are three stripes on the back of all the squirrels.
