in reality there are three types of musical instruments:

1) stringed instruments
2)wind instruments
3)percussion instruments


in case of stringed instruments, like sitar,violin,sarod produce music because of the vibration of the String. The pitch could be changed with the length of the wire. if we make the wire shorter the pitch increases.

in case of wind instruments like flute,shenai produce music by the vibrating air column. We generally see musicians closing and opening the holes of the instruments. they do this in order to change the pitch. while closing or opening the holes of the instrument, they are changing the length of the aircolumn to change the pitch.

in case of percussion instruments like drums,tabla produce music with the vibrating stretched membrane. the pitch different with the tightness of the stretched membrane.
