2 persons A and B are 350m apart, if A can run at the speed of 7 m/s and B can run at the speed of 3 m/s.
Find how much time will they meet each other if:
1) In same direction
2) Opposite direction....

IF THEY RUN IN THE SAME DIRECTION:

*Assuming A is behind B


Let x be the time needed.


Person A:

Distance = Speed x Time

Distance = 7x


Person B:

Distance = Speed x Time

Distance = 3x


The difference is 350m

7x - 3x = 350

4x = 350

x = 87.5 seconds


Answer: They will meet after 87.5 seconds.

IF THEY RUN IN THE OPPOSITE DIRECTION:

Person A runs at 7m/s

⇒ 1 second = 7 m


Person B runs at 3m/s

⇒ 1 second 3 m


A and B run together:

1 second = 7 + 3 = 10 m


Find the time needed for them to meet:

10 m = 1 second

1 m = 1/10 second

350 m = 1/10 x 350 = 35 seconds


Answer: They will meet after 35 seconds
