2. Raghu wanted to buy a rope to fence his triangular field in which two sided pointing towards East and North directions are 12 m 5m respectively. Unfortunately, he forgot the length of the side joining the ends of previous two sides. Kindly help him in buying the total length of rope needed for fencing.

Given,

Length of side in East direction \[ = 12m\]

Length of side in North direction \[ = 5m\]

Solution,

This will create a right angled triangle and third side will be its hypotenuse.

\[\begin{array}{l} = \sqrt {{{12}^2} + {5^2}} \\ = \sqrt {144 + 25} \\ = \sqrt {169} \\ = 13m\end{array}\]

The length of third side will be 13 m.

Length of rope needed for fencing,

\[\begin{array}{l} = 12 + 5 + 13\\ = 30m\end{array}\]

Hence the length of rope needed for fencing is 30 m.
