1 Why is team spirit so important? Remember we all heard a story of a person breaking one
thin stick easily but failing to break a dozen thin sticks were bundled together. This is the
simplest example of the power of unity and power of standing together. If all the people in
group fight for the same cause then that group becomes a team. That is the basie difference
between a team and a group. A group is a collection of people without a pool, where, as a
team is a coordinated, cooperative work of people for achieving a specine goal if a team has
to win and achieve its goal and objective, all members of the team must cooperate with each
other Having 11 great players in a hockey or a cricket team will not guarantee victory unless
there is cooperation
2. Many of you would have seen the movie "Chak De! India where the Indian women's hockey
team initially performs poorly because team players were playing for themselves and not for
India. The coach was struggling to make them understand the importance of playing together as
a team. When he succeeds, the entire ball game changed. They won the gold medal defeating
the rest of the world class teams only because they changed their mindset
3. A good team player cooperates with the rest of the team mates. He or she does not get
jealous of others. They encontrage others to give their best and trains the weak team mates to
better their performance. Such a member of the team feels happy if someone else is praised
or achieves something good. A good team player is a good loser too, Star performers know
how to take a defeat. It is also called sportsman spirit. While it is good to excel individually,
it is important to learn how to work together in a team and cooperate with others
