Two reasons why both men and women could become victims of gender-based violence are-

  • Obsolete social norms- Social norms are probably the most common reason for gender-based violence. In our country, despite living in the 21st century, people have failed to upgrade their mindset. In India, the most numbers of crimes are committed against females. The obsolete rule of the male always having to lead the female has been ongoing in our society. When a woman raises her voice, there is an utmost effort of society to quiet her.
  • The stereotypical image of a man- Not only in our country but globally, it is believed that a man expressing his feelings is an example of him being weak. There is not a more wrong concept than this among us. Men are humans. They are supposed to show emotions. There is a very stereotypical idea that men are ever strong, they never have a breakdown. This is extremely wrong. Many men are suffering from domestic violence but don't speak up due to the fear of being deemed to be less of a man.

While there are many other reasons for gender-based violence, these are one of the main reasons for such acts.
