and indirectly from people side they are electing the president
so tete Is no need of people to elect
because first they select there prime minister through voting
then it is a important decision for country because president is very important person

If the President was to be elected directly by the people he could become a rival centre of power to the council of minister's . This would be against the parliamentary system with ministerial responsibility. As Jawaharlal Nehru said in the constituent assembly , "We could not have a directly elected President and not give him real powers.

Hence president and vice president are elected indirectly.
