Given :- Two liquids are mixed in the ratio 3 : 5 and the

mixture is sold at Rs.120/litre with a profit of 20%. If the

first liquid is costlier than the second by Rs.2 per litre, find the cost of the costlier liquid per litre.

Solution :-

Let us assume that, 3 litres of first liquid is mixed with 5 litres of second liquid .

so,

→ Total SP = (3 + 5) * 120 = 8 * 120 = Rs.960

→ Profit = 20%

then,

→ Total CP = SP * 100 / (100 + Profit%) = 960 * 100 / 120 = Rs.800 .

now, let us assume that, cost of second liquid is Rs.x / litre . so, cost of first liquid is (x + 2) / litre .

→ 3(x + 2) + 5x = 800

→ 3x + 5x = 800 - 6

→ 8x = 794

→ x = Rs.99.25

therefore,

→ The cost of the costlier liquid = 99.25 + 2 = Rs.101.25 / litre (Ans.)

To find  : the cost of the costlier liquid per litre.​

Solution:

mixture is sold at 120 with a profit of 20%.

Hence CP + (20/100)CP  = 120

=> CP = Rs 100  per litre

Cost of 8 litre  =  Rs 800

liquids are mixed in the ratio 3: 5 hence  3  litre and 5 litre

First liquid is costlier than the second by  2 per litre

Let say x is the cost  costlier liquid per litre.​  the other is x - 2  Rs / litre

Hence  3(x ) + 5(x - 2)   = 800

=> 8x  =  810

=> x =  101.25  Rs

Cost of Costlier liquid per liter  =   101.25  Rs
