HCF of 680 = 2 * 2 * 2 * 5  * 17

HCF of 850 = 2 * 5 * 5 * 17

HCF of 680 and 850 = 2 * 5 * 17

                                    = 170

So, Container maximum capacity  = 170 litres.

Hope this helps!

Heya

Whenever some values are given and the value that you have to calculate is bigger than these numbers, then it is a question of LCM.

Similarly, when the value to be calculated is smaller than the given values, then it is a question of HCF.

Here we are needed to find the capacity of container which is smaller than both of them, so obviously hcf

680 = 2×2×2×5×17

850= 2×5×5×17

The capacity of the container will be 2×5×17=170litres
