HCF of 850 = 2 * 5 * 5 * 17
HCF of 680 and 850 = 2 * 5 * 17
= 170
So, Container maximum capacity = 170 litres.

Whenever some values are given and the value that you have to calculate is bigger than these numbers, then it is a question of LCM.
Similarly, when the value to be calculated is smaller than the given values, then it is a question of HCF.
Here we are needed to find the capacity of container which is smaller than both of them, so obviously hcf
680 = 2×2×2×5×17
850= 2×5×5×17
The capacity of the container will be 2×5×17=170litres
