let x and y be the two numbers

according to the above equation

= x-y = 8 ........(1)

if 12 + x = 3y

x = 3y - 12.......(2)

by substituting 1 and 2

x - y = 8

3y - 12 - y = 8

2y - 12 = 8

2y = 8 + 12

2y = 20

y = 20/ 2

y = 10

x - y = 8

x - 10 = 8

x = 8 + 10

x = 18

3y = 3 × 10 = 30

they fore x = 18 y = 30
