Answer:

first step : given , the 2 others sides i.e. base and perpendicular is 9cm and 42 cm respectively

let , the hypotenuse be H

since it is a right angle triangle

second step: by Pythagoras theorum , we have

H^2= 9^2+42^2

=>H^2= 81+1764

=>H^2= 1855

=>H=√1855

=>H= 42.95cm

i hope this helps :)

Length of hypotenuse is 42.95 cm.

Given:

  • The sides of a right angle triangle are 9 cm and 42 cm.

To find:

  • Find the side of hypotenuse.

Solution:

Concept to be used:

  • Apply Pythagoras theorem.
  • Pythagoras theorem: It states that Hypotenuse²= Perpendicular²+ Base²

Step 1:

Let base of right triangle is 42 cm

and Perpendicular is 9 cm.

Step 2:

Apply Pythagoras theorem.

 { \text{Hypotenuse}}^{2}  = ( {9)}^{2}  + ( {42)}^{2}  \\

or

{ \text{Hypotenuse}}^{2}  = 81 + 1754 \\

or

{ \text{Hypotenuse}}^{2}  = 1845 \\

or

taking square root both sides.

{ \text{Hypotenuse}}  = \sqrt{1845} \\

Step 3:

Find square root of 1845 by division method.

 \:  \:  \:  \:  \:  \:  \: 4 |18 \:  \:  \: 45| 42.95 \\  + 4 |16|  \:  \:  \:  \:  \:  \:  \:  \:  \:  \:  \:  \:  \:  \:  \\  -  -  -  -  -  \\ \:  \:  82 |245|  \\  + 2 |164|  \\  -  -  -  -  -  \\ 849 |8100|  \\  + 9 |7641| \\  -  -  -  -  -  \\  8585|45900|  \\  + 5 |42925|  \\  -  -  -  -  -  -  \\ 8590 |297500|  \\ . \\ . \\ .

Thus,

Length of hypotenuse is 42.95 cm.
