as the trains enter their respective tunnels... they are 3 miles apart....
their speed combined is 15 miles/hr
thus they will meet in 3/15 of an hour... i.e. 12 minutes...
the distance is 1 mile from the start of 5mph train
the distance is 2 miles from the start of the 10mph train...
in other words... they will meet at the end of the tunnel of the slower train...

Looking down from a helicopter there are 2 miles of open ground between the tunnels. The tunnels are one mile long each so the trains are 4 miles apart at.
