I would say that the characteristics of the early stone age would be considered to be wooden houses or caves used ti live in with low sanitation and hunting and gathering techniques to fetch food. Most of the settlements would make use of the nature surrounding it including rivers for water access, food and washing. Also, people would like to use caves for housing as they are decent insulators (depending of the rock type) and also because they pose no fire hazard. At night, people would eat the caught meat and burn fires to sharpen sticks and to cook meat (yes, they would have fires). The people of this time (neolithic) would not farm animals and would make flint weapons.
