Used very rarely in research oriented labs because of their potential hazards. But they are fine for a school based laboratory.

Instead of heating directly with a burner a magnetic stirrer mostly does the jo since most magnetic stirrers(eg-REMI models) have temperature control so you can increase the temperature to say 473K,stirring a solution alongside heating ensures a somewhat more even dissipation since we can perceive all the molecules being aided with their convection based heat transfer by giving them external force.

Other commonly used methods include autoclaving(used for chromatography) or incubation if the temprature needs to be precisely maintained for a long time.

Bunsen burner is used instead of oil lamp for the following reasons -

• The oil lamp's flame is weaker than the flame of bunsen burner which is not preferable for many chemistry experiments.

• The flame control aspects are more accurate in the bunsen burner than an oil lamp which is preferable for precise chemistry experiments.

• The combustion of oil in the oil lamp can generate unwanted carbon vapour which can interfere the chemical experiment.

• The bunsen burner is more safe than an oil lamp.
