Solution:

Let's assume "D" represents the distance covered.

Since with the speed of 30 km/hr the person reaches 10 min late and with the speed of 42 km/hr he reaches 10 minutes early

∴ The difference in time = (10 + 10) min = 20 min = \frac{20}{60} \:hr = \frac{1}{3} \: hr

We know,

Now, according to the question, we can form the following equation as:

\frac{D}{30} - \frac{D}{42}  = \frac{1}{3}

taking L.C.M of the denominators in L.H.S.

\implies \frac{7D\:-\:5D}{210} = \frac{1}{3}

\implies \frac{2D}{210} = \frac{1}{3}

\implies D = \frac{210}{6}

\implies \bold{D = 35\:km/hr}

Thus, the distance covered by the person is → 35 km/hr.
