2. You are given 5 resistors (R1, R2, R3, R4 & R5), a battery, a key, an ammeter and a voltmeter. Draw a circuit diagram which connects the parallel combination of R1 & R2 in series with the parallel combination of R3, R4 & R5. Make arrangements to measure the total current in the circuit and to measure the potential difference across the parallel combination of R3, R4 & R5.

Here the supply potential is VAB between the points A and B. Since the resistors R1, R2 and R3 are connected in parallel combination the potential difference across each resistor is same as the supply. Hence VAB = VR1 = VR2 = VR3. VR1 is the potential across the resistor R1.
