x = \sqrt{3} + 1

substituting in x^{2} + 12

= (\sqrt{3} + 1 )^{2} + 12

= (\sqrt{3} )^{2} + 1 + 2\sqrt{3} + 12

= 3 + 1 + 2\sqrt{3} + 12

= 16 + 2\sqrt{3}

= 16 + 2 x 1.732050808

= 16 + 3.464101615
