in \: 20l \: of \: mixture \\ \\ milk \: = \frac{3}{4} \times 20 = 15l \\ \\ water = \frac{1}{4} \times 20 = 5l \\ \\ let \: the \: quantity \: of \: milk \: added \: be \: y \: liters \\ \\ according \: to \: question \\ \\ \frac{15 + y}{5} = \frac{4}{1} \\ \\ 15 + y = 4 \times 5 \\ \\ 15 + y = 20 \\ \\ y = 20 - 15 \\ \\ y = 5 \: liters \\ \\ so \: option \: (b) \: right \: answer \\ \\ hope \: it \: helps..

20 liters of a mixture contains milk and water in the ratio 3:1.Then the amount of milk to be added to the mixture so as to have milk and water in the ratio 4:1 is ?

Given

20 liters of a mixture contains milk and water in the ratio 3:1.

Find the contains of milk and water from ratios.the amount of milk to be added to the mixture so as to have milk and water in the ratio 4:1.

Total mixture 20 litres contain.and the ratio of milk is 3:4.

Amount of milk in the mixture.

 \frac{3}{4} \times 20 \\ 3 \times 5 = 15l

Total mixture 20 litres contain.and the ratio of water 1:4

Amount of water in the mixture.

 \frac{1}{4} \times 20 \\ \\ = 5

Let the amount of milk to be added to the mixture be X.

 \frac{15+ x}{5} = \frac{4}{1} \\ \\1 (15+ x ) = 4 \times 5 \\ \\ 15 + x = 20 \\ \\ x = 20 - 15 \\ \\ = 5 \: litres \\ \\

Therefore here option B is matching from answer.
