Given -

  • Rakesh's age is less than Sonia's age by 10yrs.

  • The sum of their ages is 36yrs.

To -

  • Find thier ages and correct equation.

Solution -

Let the age of Rakesh be x

So, the age of Sonia will be x + 10

As given that the sum of their ages is 36.

According to question -

\longmapsto x + (x + 10) = 36

\longmapsto 2x + 10 = 36

\longmapsto 2x = 36 - 10

\longmapsto 2x = 26

\longmapsto x = \cancel{\dfrac{26}{2}}

\longmapsto x = 13

Now,

Placing 13 in place of x -

\longmapsto Sonia's age = x + 10 = 13 + 10 = 23

\longmapsto Rakesh's age = x = 13

\therefore The age of Sonia is 23 yrs and Rakesh is 13 yrs.

Correct option -

Option A is the correct equation.

\longmapsto x + (x + 10) = 36

Solution:

Let,

Rakesh's age is x

and Sonia's age is (x+10)

ATQ,

x+(x+10)=36

2x+10=36

2x=36-10

2x=26

x=26÷2

x=13

Answer:

Rakesh's age is 13

and Sonia's age is (13+10)=23
