Given:

(i) The amount of petrol present is 20L.

To find:

(i) The amount of petrol present when it is decreased by 45%

Solution:

We know that

If a quantity having x litres of substance is decreased by y%, then the amount of substance left in it would be equal to

[(100-y)% of x] litres

Similarly, after reducing 45% from 20L, we have

[(100-45)% of 20] L

= (55% of 20)L

= (55*20/100) L

= 11L

So, 11L of petrol is left.
