Given:

Speed of the truck = 36 km/hr

Reaction time = 0.6 sec

Retardation = 6 m/s²

Final velocity v = 0

To find:

The distance travelled by the truck before stopping.

Solution:

First we shall convert the values in S.I units:

36 km/hr = 36*5/18 m/s = 10 m/s

From the formula:

S= ut + 1/2at²

Distance travelled when the truck was not decelerated (before reaction time started):

S = ut, as a=0

S = 10*0.6 = 6 m

Distance travelled after reaction time has started:

v² = u² + 2as

Putting the values we get:

0 = 10² - 2*6*S

S = 100/12 = 8.33 m

Total distance travelled = 6 + 8.33 = 14.33 m

Therefore the distance travelled by the truck will be 14.33 m.
