x+2y+1=0

x+2y=-1 -1

6x + y -17=0

6x + y = 17 -2

multiplying eq1 by 1 and eq2 by 2

x+2y=-1 -3

12x+2y=34 -4

now subtracting eq 3 and 4

x+2y=-1

12x+2y =34

we get -11x = -35

x=35/11

put value in eq1

x+2y =-1

35/11+2y= -1

2y = -1 -35/11

2y = -11-35/11

2y = -46/11

y = -46/11×2

y= -46/22

y= -23/11
