216 small but identical cubes have been put together to form a large cube. How many more such small cubes will be required to cover this large cube completely?

According to the question, the 216 smaller cubes are joined together to form a larger cube. That cube will be the Rubik's cube of order 6 (6*6*6) . So, we have to find exactly the no. of cubes with two faces painted pink . Basically, all the edge pieces will be having two faces painted pink.

In a 6*6*6 cube, no. of edge pieces are

( Order - 2) * 12

= (6–2)*12

= 48

The answer is 48.
