(2+4+8+6+x+5)/6=8

25+x=48

x=23

2)23

♥️ Question :-

If the mean of the following data is 8, then find the value of x :-

[2, 4, 8, 6, x, 5]

  • 23
  • 17
  • 25
  • 48

 \\

♥️ Solution :-

\sf Mean =\Large \frac{Sum\:of\:all\: observations}{Total\:no.of\: observations}

Here,

  • The observations are 2, 4, 8, 6, x, 5
  • Total no.of observations are 6
  • Mean given is 8
  • Sum of all the observations is x + 25.

So,

\red \mapsto \sf \Large  \frac{25 + x}{6}  = 8

\red \mapsto \sf 25+x=8×6

\red \mapsto \sf 25+x=48

\red \mapsto \sf x = 48-25

\red \mapsto \sf x=23

Therefore, the value of x is 23 when 8 is the mean of the observations 2, 4, 8, 6, x, 5.

 \\

♥️ Verification :-

We have to check by substituting the value of x.

\sf Mean =\Large  \frac{Sum\:of\:all\: observations}{Total\:no.of\: observations}

\red \mapsto \sf 8 =  \Large \frac{2 + 4 + 8 + 6 + 23 + 5}{6}

\red \mapsto \sf 8= \Large \frac{48}{6}

\red \mapsto \sf 8=8

Hence, verified !!
