$x - \frac{12}{5} = 3$

$add \: \frac{12}{5} \: to \: both \: sides$

$x - \frac{12}{5} + \: \frac{12}{5} = 3 + \frac{12}{5}$

$x = \frac{15 + 12}{5}$

$x = \frac{27}{5}$
