Hi,

When you are given that 29.2% (w/w) hcl stock solution has density of 1.25 g ml1. The molecular weight of hcl is 36.5 g mol1. The volume (in ml) of stock solution required to prepare a 200 ml solution of 0.4 m hcl  can be calculated as follows;

mass of HCl stock solution is 29.2/100 x 1250 = 365 g

Then molarity of the stock solution is = mass / molar mass

Molarity = 365/36.5

Molarity = 10 M

If 10 M = 1000ml

then 0.4M = ?

0.4 x 1000/10

= 40 ml of the stock solution
