When ferrous sulphate is heat then it make ferric oxide +Sulphur dioxid+Sulphur trioxide

1 . Decomposition reaction

Balanced

2feso4 reaction fe2so3+so2+so3

Solution:

1) Observation:

  • Change in color of crystals from green to brown. This is because of the ferrous sulfate crystals on heating will loose water molecules and turn to white which immediately turns brown due to formation of ferric oxide
  • Water droplet will be observed on the wall of the boiling tube. Removal of water molecules from the crystals will get condensed on the walls of boiling tube.

2) Decomposition reaction is taking place as as ferrous sulfate crystals are breaking down into smaller compounds that are ferric oxide, sulfur oxide and sulfur tri-oxide.

3)Chemical reaction:

FeSO_4.7H_2O\overset{\Delta }{\rightarrow} FeSO_4+7H_2O

2FeSO_4(s)\overset{\Delta }{\rightarrow} Fe_2O_3(s)+SO_2(g)+SO_3(g)
