2ml of NaOH solution is added to few pieces of granuled zinc metal taken in a test tube . When the contents are warmed, a gas evolves which is bubbled through a soap solution before testing. Write the equation of the chemical reaction involved and the test to detect the gas. Name the gas which will be evolved when the same metal reacts with dilute solution of a strong acid

NaOh + Zn -- Na2ZnO2 + H2

Hydrogen gas can be detected by bringing burning stick nearby it , as ,
as soon as it will come on contact with it
it will create a pop sound

Answer:

When pieces of granulated zinc metal are added to 2ml of NaOH solution, they react to form sodium zincate (Na_2ZnO_2) and hydrogen gas H_2.

Zn+2NaOH\rightarrow Na_2ZnO_2+H_2

Hydrogen produces a  pop sound when a match stick is brought near it.

When pieces of granulated zinc metal are added to  dilute solution of a strong acid, they react and form zinc chloride (ZnCl_2) and hydrogen gas (H_2).

Zn+2HCl\rightarrow ZnCl_2+H_2

Hydrogen produces a  pop sound when a match stick is brought near it.

Thus as zinc reacts with both acids and bases , it is considered as a amphoteric metal.
